FAQ

  1. What is Krav Maga? Like, the short answer.

Krav Maga is a form of self-defense training. It employs quick, reflexive, movements that are meant to be learned and applied to muscle memory quickly through repetition. Our students learn both defensive (think plucking someone’s hands off your throat) and offensive (think a front kick to the groin) tactics so that they are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to get home safe.

  2. I’ve never done a martial art. Will I be able to do this?

Yes! Absolutely. Our Level 1 classes are designed for ALL experience levels and instructors are sure to know which students haven’t attended classes before so that they able to jump in and help.

  3. I’m super out of shape. Will I be able to do this?

Again, absolutely. Our Krav Maga and Fitness classes are adaptable for all levels of fitness. And with regular attendance, you’ll get in shape quickly!

  4. I have an injury. Will I be able to do this?

Most likely, yes. Talk to your member advisor and express any concerns about injuries and they’ll be able to provide some guidance. We are able to adapt movements for injuries and disabilities, so just be open and honest about your issues so you have the best experience possible!

  5. I’ve done advanced training at other Krav Maga Gyms. Can I jump into advanced classes?

If you’ve trained at other Krav Maga Worldwide facilities, yes! If you have trained with non-KMW gyms, we recommend starting in Level 1 so that we can gauge your skill level before you jump in to higher-level classes.

  6. How can I take higher level classes?

Once you’ve completed the entire Level 1 curriculum (estimated 6-8 months with regular attendance, but completely dependent on the individual), you’ll take a pre-test. If you pass the pre-test, you’ll be approved to take the Level 1 test. If you pass the Level 1 test, you can move into Level 2 classes.

  7. Do I need special clothing or equipment?

For clothing, we recommend comfortable athletic apparel & shoes for all classes. For Level 1 Krav, you do not need any special equipment, although we do recommend buying hand wraps to prevent scrapes and cuts. For Level 2 and higher, shin guards, mouth guards, gloves, and headgear are required. We all of this in our Proshop!

  8. Are your instructors certified to teach? how does that work?

All of our instructors are certified to teach by Krav Maga Worldwide (KMW). In order for someone to become an instructor, he or she must go through months of Instructor Development courses here at KMMD, and our Chief Instructor must give approval for testing. The KMW Instructor Certification Program consists of 11 courses designed to develop & test candidates’ ability to master Krav Maga techniques and teach Krav Maga so that students get the best experience possible. Learn more about the instructor certification here.
